These are exciting times in education. There are so many opportunities to implement new and exciting pedagogies, strategies and instruction. I am fortunate to be a part of a team in my self directed context that is tasked with providing teachers the means to innovate our current practices. Our current practices are somewhat antiquated and require innovations to better meet the needs of twenty first century learner. My question is, how do we get fellow educators to become engaged in the process of innovating for our students? How do we share our passion for innovations with others in an attempt to set high standards for twenty first century learning? Engaging twenty first century learners requires innovations in teaching and learning. Education does not look the same as it has in the past. We need to move past teaching as I was taught, or coaching as I was coached, into paving new opportunities for teaching and learning. The skills and competencies that twenty first learners require are changing rapidly and we, as educators, need to keep pace with these changes. While it is important to still reflect on the past, what has been a success, and what has been a failure, we have a professional obligation to provide innovative learning experiences for students.
